Need help deciding what to wear for your session? Check out these helpful suggestions.
1. Coordinate, not match! You want to coordinate your colors with everyone in the family, but you don’t want to be matchy-matchy. Pick a color scheme of 2-3 colors and have your family pick outfits that include one or more of those colors. If you don’t normally make your family wear matching white shirts and khaki pants everyday, why do that for a family photo? That fact that you are all in a family photo together will let everyone know that you are family.
2. Wear what you wear everyday, but step it up a notch! If you normally wear jeans and that’s what you feel most comfortable in, then wear jeans for your photo session, but pair it with a nice shirt, top, blouse, etc.
3. Accessorize! Add accessories to create layers and depth to your outfit. Add a scarf, or a statement necklace. Add a tie or a sweater.
4. Don’t forget about the shoes! Some photos will be full body, so make sure your shoes aren't scuffed up and dirty.
5. Pick one outfit and coordinate the rest of the family’s outfits around that. So momma, if you have found a “to die for” outfit for yourself, then have that be the building block for the style and color palette for the rest of the family.
6. Talking about style - think about a theme or style, and then make sure all outfits fit the same style. If you want a dressy look, make sure everyone is dressy.
7. Plan ahead! Once you book your session, start rummaging through your closets to see what you already have and what you need. Don’t wait till the night before to pick outfits.
8. Think outside the box! When looking through your closets try on things that you would have never thought to wear together before. You’d be surprised at what hidden gems you already own, but were just waiting to be paired with the right pants or shirt or shoes!
