You can't really tell a good story without all the details and the same goes for photography. To tell a really great story with your photos, the full story, it's important to capture the details. This month I was challenged by a fellow photographer, Adri De La Cruz, the wonderfully talented photographer of Whimsy Heart Photography and administrator of the photography group Twelve, to really focus on the details and not the face. And I gladly accepted the challenge! When my daughter asked to do some painting, I knew this was my chance to get the details. I helped her get all of the paints and brushes out and then as she painted, I captured the details. The paint, the brush, how she holds the brush, the way she sits in her chair as she paints, and her presentation of the finished masterpiece. Her face is never in focus or in the photo at all, but even with out it...you know the story that is being told. It's these details that I will cherish the most 20 years from now! It's the detail of her little hand holding her finished painting that will bring tears to my eyes as she graduates college and starts her own path.
